It's not so much anti Bubba as the fact that there essentially isn't a satisfactory way to mount a scope to a SKS, and for the effective range of the rifle, you're really just as well off spending the money on ammo and learning to shoot the iron sights well. AndrewZed1 • 2 yr. ago. Get a Magwedge rail. Not too expensive or hard to install.Chinese is light, but can be less accurate. Yugo is heavier, but more accurate and better machined. Yugo's do have some firing pin problems, but can be replaced with a Chinese one for about 5-10 dollars. I have one with over 1000 rounds shot by me and it works fine with the original pin.Generally the difference is in milled vs. stamped receiver. Kind of like Pre vs. post 1964 Winchester Model 94's. The Russian SKS is considered best quality due to milled out of solid steel parts. Where the Chinese and some other are made of cheaper stamped parts. Yugo SKS rifles are the only ones to include a grenade launcher on some models.Another advantage of owning an SKS is that it shoots 7.62X39 ammo, which is one of the best calibers for preppers. A big reason for this is that 7.62×39 is cheap and easy to find. On a good day, you can find a box of 20 steel-cased, non-corrosive cartridges for $5 or $6.
